On his stone and his wife's obituary it list his last name being "Sumler" (Simpkins)


Sumler Simpkins, 81, of "Deep Water," Indian Valley, passed away Saturday, January 3, 1998, at his residence.

He was retired from Hercules Power Company of Radford. Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Q. Simpkins of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Ann Simpkins of Powhatan and Jim and Margaret Simpkins of Chapin, S.C.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Pocahontas and Ron Schuck of Manassas, Gloria Simpkins of Springfield and Ida and Randall Simpkins Benton of Poquoson;
a sister and spouse, Tula and Refert Jenkins of Hillsville; a brother and spouse, Shaffer and Hestel Simpkins of Indian Valley;
12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 1998, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, with Elder Joe McGrady and the Rev. Vinton Quesenberry officiating.

Burial will follow in Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel.
