A Prominent and Well Liked Citizen Goes to His Long Reward

Friends in all walks of life in Madison heard with deep sorrow and sympathy of the death of Charles L. Gebest at 11:25 o'clock Saturday night after an illness of about two weeks.

The decedent would have been 68 years of age next February 2d and was born in this city in which he always maintained his home. during the civil war he served in a regiment of the Ohio cavalry. One of a family of musicians, Mr. Gebest was a musician of high merit. For many years he was connected with the band of the big Robinson circus and after retiring and opening the Gebest Hotel here, of which he made a success, he still kept up his music, being a number of years the able leader of the Elks band. He was a member of the Masons.

Besides the widow, a son, Edward L. survives. There are also living two sisters, Miss Ida Gebest, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Lottie Davis, Washington, D.C., and two brothers, Frank of Washington, D.C., and James of Mt. Olive, Ills.

Funeral services will be held at the residence at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in charge of Rev. Dower and the burial will be in Springdale.
