One of the most well known portrait painters in New York. He was the son of George A. Baker one of New York's earliest portrait painters. He painted such portraits as the three daughters of William Vanderbilt, General Hooker and some of his art was exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum.

This is a photograph (Carte De Visite) of George Augustus Baker Jr. taken by C.D. Fredricks & Co., New York City in the early ca. 1860s. Most cartes de visite were used for mounting albumen prints. That was the case with this image. However, it is likely that this image is a photograph of an earlier form of photography. Probably a daguerreotype of Mr. Baker which was taken in the ca. 1840s ~ 1850s when he was in his 20's or early 30's.
