Joseph K. Aikins of 2828 Beechwood Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA, was a son of John Aikins and Mary Reynolds. He was retired and married to Mathilda Roberts, who survives. He was buried in the Homewood Cemetery on September 22, 1943. Informant was daughter Jeannette R. Atkins.

Joseph Kerr Aikins, Sr., who was connected with the Pennsylvania railroad for 29 years and for many years thereafter was identified with the coal and coke industry in this district, died yesterday after a brief illness. Mr. Aikins was a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh. He was born Nov. 20, 1856, in Old Allegheny, where he attended the Third Ward School and concluded his education in the Western University of Pennsylvania. Sixty-one years ago Mr. Aikins was married to Mathilda Wilson Roberts, also of Allegheny. He was a member of Crescent Lodge No. 576, F. & A. M. and Syria Temple. Besides his widow, Mr. Aikins is survived by two sons, Joseph Aikins Jr., and John R. Aikins, five daughters, Mrs. Mary Wilson of Clarion, Pa., and Mrs. Edith Shidle, Miss Jeannette Aikins, Mrs. Elizabeth Wright and Mrs. Virginia Snooks, all of Pittsburgh; a sister, Mrs. Blanche Elton of Dormont; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in his late home, 2838 Beechwood Blvd. Burial will be in Homewood Cemetery.
