According to an Article about a memorial ceremony that was for church furniture that Howard's parents donated, Howard was a radio operator and his plane went down over Ebreux, France. From which his body must have been recovered as it was shipped back the US and buried here.

Howard served as a Tech. Sergeant, 714th Bomber Squadron, 448th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Allegany County, Maryland prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 4, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted as being employed in construction and also as Single, without dependents.
He died during the war, cause currently unknown.
