Funeral services for Joseph P. Tynon, age 87, a resident of the Riverledge Healthcare Facility and formerly of Washington Street in Ogdensburg will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29 at Foxwood Memorial Park Chapel with Rev. F. Ja.m.es Shurtleff officiating. Calling hours will also be held on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service in the Chapel. Mr. Tynon passed away Wednesday, May 23, at the Healthcare Facility. Arrangements are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.

Surviving are his sons Joseph and his wife Marlene Tynon of California, Terry and his wife Kathy Tynon of North Carolina, Philip Tynon of Ogdensburg; daughters Sharon and her husband Rick Downey of North Carolina, Sandra and her husband Jim Bouchey of Ogdensburg, Phyllis and her husband Dale Christman of Ogdensburg; stepchildren Ronald and Alinda Valcour of Brockville, Audrey and John Van Dusen of Brockville, Eunice Tynon and Helen Pratt of Ogdensburg; a sister Elizabeth Baker of WA; a brother Richard Tynon of Ogdensburg; 18 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many step-grandchildren.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife Muriel; a daughter Diane Van Dusen; a sister Dorothy Bice; brothers "Bill", Clifford, Leo and Dennis Tynon; stepchildren Douglas Valcour, Elaine Hall and Gordon Valcour; a daughter-in-law Victoria Tynon, sister-in-law Marie Tynon and brother-in-law Floyd Baker.

He was born on September 6, 1924 in Ogdensburg, NY a son of the late Patrick and Corrine (Denny) Tynon. He attended Ogdensburg Schools for his education. A previous marriage to Laura Thivierge ended in divorce. He then married Muriel (Evans) Valcour on August 27, 1966 at the Methodist Church in Ogdensburg. She predeceased him on February 25, 1999.

During his career, he was employed at the Standard Shade Roller for 6 ½ years and in 1956 he went to work at Diamond International until 1978 when he was forced to retire due to ill health. He was a past member of the Ogdensburg Moose Lodge, Notre Dame Church and was an avid bingo player. He also enjoyed making la.m.pshades from popsicle sticks in his spare time.
