TOPSFIELD - Howard H. "Pup" Hunnewell, 86, husband of Irene (Severance) Hunnewell, died May 9, 2002, at his home. He was born in Topsfield, May 22, 1915, the son of Howard Morton and Cora (Scribner) Hunnewell. He graduated from Machias Normal School and received his Master's degree from the University of Maine. He was a teacher for 29 years and was also a principal. His avocation and his love, after teaching, was carpentry.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. He was a member of the American Legion in Topsfield.
In addition to his wife, Irene, of Topsfield, he is survived by two daughters, Claudia McLellan and her husband, Roddie of Merrill and Beth Rushton and her husband, Curtis of Topsfield; one sister, Dorothy Rhoades of Westminster, Mass.; four grandchildren, Amy Lorenzo and her husband, Rob of Hampden, Scott McLellan of Plymouth, N.C.; Travis Rushton and his wife, Stephanie of Athol, Idaho and Jerrod Rushton and his wife, Janice of Middlebury, Vt.; two great-grandchildren, Brooke Rushton and Nicholas Lorenzo; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, IreneSmith and a brother, Harry Hunnewell. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at Hunnewell Acres Cemetery, Tops-field, with the Rev. Roy Hurlburt officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Topsfield Area Scholarship, 4 Winn Rd., Lee, ME 04455.
