My paternal grandmother and one of my very best friends in life was Ruby. She was the daughter of L.C. [Babe] Barrow and Addie Mae Allison Barrow. She had 2 brothers Melvin and Floyd, and 1 sister Miriam [Polk]. She was a wild girl who loved to go to the dances and flirt with the men. I am told that she would watch my grandfather, Andrew Preston Abernathy, as he would pass her house everday going and coming from work, until she finally found her opportunity to snag him. They married in Tilden and raised their three sons Charles, Donald, and Edwin in Freer, Duval County, Texas where she lived until she was admitted to the nursing home in San Diego, Texas.

Ruby was many things to many people but most of all she was a wonderful grandmother. Her grand children are Gwendolyn Jean [Jeanne], Laura Louise, Charles Alton Jr., Mary Allison, Trisha Jo, Bradley Scott, and Joseph Edwin.
