Duncan Oliphant, a brewer, was the son of Jas. Oliphant (1719-1816) and Jane Wortman (b. 1722), of Saratoga Co., NY, and the grandson of Duncan Oliphant, Sr., a pioneer settler of Staten Isl., NY, and one of the founders of Hunterdon Co., NJ. Duncan Oliphant, of Ballston, Saratoga Co., NY, married Rachel Woodruff, with whom he had five children: Robert; David; Elizabeth; Sarah; and Mary. (He is said by some researchers to have had an earlier marriage to a Jane Vandenburgh, with whom he had a son James and a daughter Jennet Jane. But this Duncan Oliphant, apparently based in Northampton Co., PA, may very well have been another man by the same name.)
