In 1872 or 1873 Alida Pruyn was the first rail passenger in the Dakota Territory. She rode in the work engine from Sioux City, Iowa, to Elk Point while her husband, Nathan Noble, rode in the rail car containing all their household goods. She resided in Woonsocket from 1913 until shortly before her death in 1929.
