Born in Frankfort, Germany
Died at Snake Creek, Montana Territory

Not known when Otto arrived in the United States, but was a clerk by profession. Enlisted in the 7th U. S. Cavalry on 5 December 1874.

He was a private in Company A at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. His company was one that under Marcus Reno attack the indian village. Otto was one of the fortunate and was able to retreat back across the river and up onto what is now called Reno Hill. He fought out the rest of the battle there.

He was with the 7th Cavalry the next year when they were pursuing Chief Joseph and his Nez Perce tribe trying to get across the border into Canada. Otto was killed at the battle of Snake Creek.
