Ilo J. Swan, born May 26, 1911, passed away February 17, 2004 from causes incident of age.

Ilo was born in Gridley, California to Effie Augusta Pearson and Charles Erastus Swan, the third of four children. After serving his country in World War II, he and his sweetheart Connie Kelly were married on April 3, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. They spent the first 37 years of their married life in Oakland, California where they built their home and raised their two sons. Ilo worked in bookkeeping and as a real estate loan representative until his retirement in 1976.

After their children had grown, Ilo and Connie sold their home in Oakland and moved to Provo in 1982 to be closer to immediate and extended family. They built their home in Indian Hills and thoroughly enjoyed their relationships with their wonderful, supportive neighbors and ward members.

Connie passed away in 1993 and Ilo lived in their house and on his own until just prior to his passing. He enjoyed remarkably good health throughout his life, taking only an aspirin for the occasional ache or pain.

One of Ilo's passions was driving. He enjoyed just getting in the car and driving, whether for work, vacation, or for simply seeing the countryside. He loved gardening in the backyard of his homes in Oakland and Provo. Tomatoes were his favorite, but he grew a bit of everything including pumpkins for neighbors and grandchildren. He was always willing to help others with projects of any kind – from splitting wood, building retaining walls, or providing financial help for those in need. Ilo was independent, honest, kind, hard working, a bit stubborn, and blessed with a healthy dose of common sense. He has been a wonderful husband, father and example to family and friends.

He is survived by his sister Verna Swan Johnson of St. George, Utah, son and daughter-in-law Charles and Deborah Swan of Vancouver, Washington, son and daughter-in-law Richard and Debra Swan of Provo, Utah, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Etta, and his brother Willis.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the American Fork City Cemetery, 600 North 100 East, American Fork, Utah. Friends may call Friday evening, February 20, 2004, from 6-8 p.m. at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 E. Center Street.
