NEWTON VAWTER
One of the Oldest and Most Respected Citizens of the County, Died Last Night
Newton Vawter, one of the oldest and most respected residents of North Madison and a retired railroad engineer, died at his home there last evening at 5:30 o'clock after an illness of five weeks from the infirmities of advanced age.
The decedent was a native of this county and for many years was a railroad engineer, retiring about 25 years ago. His wife died some years ago and Mr. Vawter was the last of a large family of brothers and sisters, nine in all. Three children survive; Mrs. Howard Lee, Columbus, and Messrs. Henry Vawter, Rockport, and William Vawter, of Evansville. The decedent was a member of the Masons, Odd Fellows and the Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held at the North Madison Christian Church at 9:30 o'clock Friday morning and the burial at Fairmount will be in charge of the Mason and Odd Fellows.
