George Shoemaker, Jr., and Edith Spencer, his wife, was born 3 mo. 16, 1770;
died 5 mo. 21, 1848; married, 12 mo. 21, 1797, Elizabeth Ellis, who died 12 mo.
19, 1839, daughter of Isaac Ellis. Samuel Shoemaker resided in Montgomery
County, Pennsylvania, until 1819, when he removed with his family to the
vicinity of the national capital, purchasing a large estate known as
"Friendship," lying partly in the District of Columbia, and partly in
Montgomery County, Maryland, where his residence was located. He and his wife
and many of his descendants are buried in the family burying-ground on the
estate.
