He was a U.S. Army medical corps warrant officer and veteran of World War II. He was a member and deacon of Church of The Way Presbyterian and a member of the Retired Teachers Association of East Baton Rouge Parish school system.
He remained in service from September 1941 until March 1946, serving as medical supply officer with the rank of chief warrant officer for Camp McCain and Camp Shelby, both camps being located in Mississippi.
He is survived by two sons, Robert J. Aertker Jr. of Baton Rouge, and Mike Aertker of Bay St. Louis, Miss.; a sister, Betty Poche ; a brother, Donald Aertker ; six grandchildren, Robert J. Aertker III, Dorothy Elizabeth Aertker, William Spencer Aertker, Natasha Aertker, Bonnie Leigh Aertker and Michelle Lynn Aertker; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Caralea Hatchell Aertker, whom he married April 1941.
