Funeral Services for Paul Curtis Betts, 89, of McKinney, Texas will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 5, 2011 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, McMillan Road, in West Monroe with Reverend Brian Mercer officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Calhoun LA. Mr. Betts passed away peacefully, Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in Allen Texas. He was retired as Co Owner/ Operator of Farm Chemical Services in Monroe. Born in Milford, Delaware, he graduated from the University of Maryland in 1941. He was then commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy. He served his country aboard ship, during WWII in the Pacific Ocean Theatre, including the Battle for Okinawa. After the war, Mr. Betts moved south, due largely to his love of agriculture. He began his long agricultural consulting and services career with Shell Agriculture Chemicals in Florida followed by Valley Chemical in Mississippi and Cotton States Chemical in Monroe. In 1960 Mr. Betts, along with Vernon O. Smith, established Farm Chemical Services Inc. The company served many of Northeast Louisianas farmers for 30 years. At retirement, the company was sold and became the Farm Chemical Group. Mr. Betts and family were lifelong members of St Pauls United Methodist Church in Monroe, until his retirement and move to Calhoun, after which he attended Faith United Methodist Church, West Monroe. He was a volunteer in many youth activities with his children and served as Chairman of the American Heart Association, Monroe Chapter. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Madeline Honey Betts and his son Bruce Betts. He is survived by his children; Steve Betts and wife Jennifer, Paula Betts, Mandy Bailey and husband Marshall and Bruces wife Suzan Betts; grandchildren, Corbett Betts, Curtis Betts and wife Marie, Christy Betts Garner and husband Ryan, Ross Betts and wife Leigh Ann, Lisa Betts Gwin and husband Matt, Holly Betts, Russ Gaar, Kurt Gaar and Madeline Bailey; and great grandchildren, John Ross Betts, Carter Gwin, Reese Betts and Blake Sargent. Pallbearers will be Steve Betts, Marshall Bailey, Corbett Betts, Curtis Betts, Ross Betts and Russ Gaar. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, McMillan Road, West Monroe and 1 hour prior to services Saturday morning. Dads wishes are that in remembrance of our mom and his wife, Honey, memorials be made to the Alzheimers Association.
