According to the History of Cornish by William Child:

Dea. Josiah Stone was one of the pioneer settlers of Cornish. Came to Cornish about the year 1777. Settled in the north central part of the town, where his surroundings were an almost unbroken wilderness. This he made his permanent home the remainder of his life. He m. first, March 6, 1777, Hannah Weld of Sturbridge, Mass., dau. of Moses and Elizabeth (Holbrook) Weld; m. second, June 3, 1795, Margarett Williams, b. in 1753, d. June 20, 1826. Had eight children, all by first marriage, and b. in Cornish.
