John was a miner. He probably went to California at the time of the gold rush, and then migrated south to San Bernardino. While there, he married Mary and the young couple accompanied the Rollins family to Parowan, Utah, in 1858. From there they moved to Minersville a year later.
John and Mary separated while their last child was still quite small. John went on to pursue his mining activities eleswhere, probably in the vicinity of Pioche, Nevada, and Mary stayed in Utah. He died in Pioche, Nevada.
I found this article while trying to find info on my great-great grandfather. I think it is very sad that it only mentions 2 of his children. I am a descendant from a son. Please do what you would like with the following information:

DIED, - At Pioche, Nevada March 8, 1895, John Osborne, aged 63 years. Deceased was an old timer here and had suffered considerably for the past two years and was confined to bed but a few days before death ended his suffering. He was the father of Mrs. W. J. Kennedy, of Milford, Utah and Mrs. D. M. Davey of Helene, Nevada. He was well liked by all who knew him. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
