Dale Smith, 84, of Urbandale, died of complications of Alzheimer's disease May 10, 1996 at the Urbandale Care Center. Funeral services were May 13 at the First Church of God in Lorimor. The Rev. Ben R. Turner officiated the services and burial was at the Lorimor Cemetery.

He was born in Madison County on Feb. 7, 1912 to Charley and Gertrude (Neeley) Smith. He married Vera Verwers on April 3, 1938 in Winterset. He was a farmer and had lived in Winterset for eight years after moving from Lorimor. He was a member of the First Church of God in Lorimor and had taught Sunday School for over 20 years there. He had also published two poetry books and wrote poems for the Lorimor paper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.

Surviving relatives include his wife; three daughters, Elaine Riedesel and husband George of Afton, Diann Turner and husband Ben of Lorimor, and Sue Ann Neal and husband Terry of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; one brother, Wesley Smith of Lorimor; one sister, Helen Farlin of Winterset; and six grandchildren.
