Sherlene Myers Osterud returned to her Heavenly Father with her family by her side on May 21,2012 due to complications from a previous battle with colon cancer. Sherlene was born in Panguitch, Utah to Horace and Ruby Myers on December 20, 1939 and enjoyed her childhood years in small-town Southern Utah. After high school, she studied Elementary and Early Childhood Education at the College of Southern Utah (now Southern Utah University) and received her degree in 1962. She began her teaching career at Longview Elementary in Murray, Utah. During this time, she met James Osterud and married him on June 19, 1964 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Sherlene and Jim made their home in Tooele, Utah and had three children; Michael, Melanie and Michele. She taught children for 33 years and greatly enjoyed her profession. After her marriage to Jim, they moved to Tooele where she taught for a few years while having her family. She returned to teaching in 1978 and taught kindergarten for 27 years at Harris Elementary in Tooele until her retirement in 2005. She was an active member of the LDS church and served in numerous positions.

Sherlene was surrounded by many friends and neighbors who loved her. She formed many friendships when she arrived in Tooele and they have been a source of pleasure and comfort to her as they raised their families, had careers, attended church, travelled, and lunched. She was actively involved with Beta Sigma Phi sorority and she thoroughly loved her Beta sisters.

She is survived by her husband Jim, her son Michael (Samantha), daughter Melanie, and her grandsons Tyrell and Trey. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Mont, and her daughter Michele.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 25, at 11:00 a.m. at the Tooele 4th Ward chapel, 192 West 200 South. Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 24, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Tate Mortuary, 110 South Main, Tooele, and Friday, 9:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment at Tooele City Cemetery.
