Kathleen (Katie) Frances Brooks, 88, Medical Lake, Washington, formerly of Kenmare, died Thursday, August 26, 1993 at Manor Care in Spokane, Washington of natural causes.

Services were held Monday, August 30, in St. John's Lutheran Church, Medical Lake, Washington. Officiant was Pastor Wayne Olsen. Musical selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace," Joanna Williams, pianist.

Local services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 2, 1993, in Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Kenmare Township, Kenmare, North Dakota. Officiant will be Pastor Darold Smidt of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare. "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" will be offered by Merrill Womach. Lunch will follow the services in Cindy's Café, Kenmare.

All her friends and neighbors throughout the years will serve as Honorary Bearers. Active Pallbearers will include Dale Byrd, Argyll Wade, Richard Nelson, Vic Madsen, Jim Cart, and Alvin Johnson.

She was born May 4, 1905 at Tolley, North Dakota, a daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Dahinden) Kirsch. As a young lady she attended country school and later Tolley High School, graduating in 1925. She then attended Minot State College where she received her teaching certificate, then taught rural schools in the area. On December 30, 1929, at Kenmare, North Dakota, she married Leslie Brooks. The couple resided and farmed near Kenmare. During this time she served as Township and School District Treasurer for many years. Her husband died December 19, 1964. She then moved to Spokane, Washington and later in 1977, to Medical Lake, Washington. She had most recently been a resident of Manor Care, Spokane, Washington.

She was a member of Associated Grandmothers Clubs of Washington, The Estelle Walleston Club, Spokane, American Association of Retired Persons, Golden Agers, and St. John's Lutheran Church, all of Medical Lake.

She is survived by her sons, Duane W. (Helen) Brooks, Medical Lake, WA and Jerry W. (Karen) Brooks, Tukwila, WA; daughters, LaDonna (Marlyn) Froseth, Kenmare, ND and Jean Brooks, Auburn, WA; sister Clara Backes, Pinellas Park, Florida; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, and two sisters.

Reviewal will be Wednesday from 2 to 7 and one hour prior to the services in the funeral home.

Thompson-Larson Funeral Home of Kenmare is handling the service.
