The Rev. Platte T. Amstutz, D. D. 100, of Wichita, Kan., formerly of the Sterling area, died Thursday at the Presbyterian Manor in Wichita.
Graveside services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Rittman Cemetery with Rev. J. Earl Jackman officiating. There will be no calling hours, Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman is handling arrangements.
He was born in 1880 near Sterling to Jacob and Leannah Fisher Amstutz and married the former Louis Emily Allison in 1908. She died Sept. 18, 1931. He then married the former Margaret Warmington Heidt on June 14, 1933. She died Jan. 1, 1966.
After serving occasional school terms as a teacher he was graduated from the College of Wooster in 1905 and the Western Theological Seminary in 1908. His first full time parish was the Presbyterian church at New Athens. He had served as a Presbyterian minister for 75 years, serving church in Flushing and Cadiz, Ohio and Michigan.
He accepted a cal in 1926 from the Presbyterian Board of Church Extension and for five years traveled extensively, assisting congregations in expanding their community service.
After retirement he served as interim pastor of the Onekema Congregational Church and the Honor Congregational Church, as well as minister of pastoral relations at the Traverse City Congregational Church. He also served five years as minister of stewardship at the First Presbyterian church of Wichita. Kan.
Surviving are two sons, Edward of Lakeview, Ark. and Platte Jr. of Wichita; a daughter, Mrs. Donald Peppard of Pleasant Hill, Tenn., 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
