CIVIL WAR VETERAN DEAD.
Chanute, Aug. 17 (AP) -- Charles A. Griffing (sic), 95, commander of the Chanute G.A.R. post, died here yesterday after a 6-month illness. His death cut to five the number of Union veterans of the Civil war here. Enlisting in the Signal Corps in Uniontown, Pa., in 1861, Griffing served through 23 battles under four generals, with Company G of the 85th regiment. He came here in 1893 from Lamar, Mo. Survivors include a daughter, Nettie Pearl Griffing, of the home, and two sons, Herbert, Kansas City, and Ira, Golden City, Mo. Funeral services will be here tomorrow.
