Monica "Boots" Catherine Carter, 95, of 500 Elmwood Drive, Galion, died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Olentangy Woods Nursing Center, Galion. She died after a short illness. She and her husband had lived independently until just last month.

Monica was born in Fountain, MI on February 14, 1917 to the late Leo and Viola (Smith) Schwartz. She married L. Eugene Carter on May, 30, 1942 and he survives her. Gene and Monica would have celebrated their 70th anniversary next week.

Boots lived most of her life in Galion having moved from Michigan. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Galion. She worked for a time at the former North Electric, Galion which is where she met her future husband, Gene. The next years were spent raising a family with her husband. She loved being a mother. Her Catholic faith was a central part of her life. She had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and praying the Rosary. She was never known to swear, and the worse thing she ever said was to call someone "fish face". Her later years were spent enjoying going for a ride in the car, stopping at McDonald's for lunch (Arby's on Thursdays) and were such regulars that their order was ready for them when they walked in the restaurant. The last pew in the back on the left was their pew at Mass. Monica lead the praying of the Rosary before early Mass for many years. Boots loved her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren.

She is survived by five daughters: Barbara L. "Bubbles" Clevenger, Galion; Mary Jean & Fred Hetler, Ft. Wayne, IN; Bonita Monica & James V. Caskey, Galion; Diane C. & Don Jackson, Fremont; Francine J. & Steven Nelson, Galion; twelve grandchildren: Amy (Tim) Sczerbowicz, Stephen (Shelly) Hetler, Monica (Jeff) Gregg, Jeffrey (Tanya) Hetler, Lisa (Kevin) Hall, Angela (Nick) Romas, Kimberly Reynolds, Carrie (Andrew) Fournier, Christy (Wes) Linton, Matthew Jackson, Cheri (Scott) Wintersteller, Sara Jackson; nineteen great-grandchildren: Brittany Gadd, Dustin Gadd, Kennedy Gregg, Jillianne Gregg, Sammy Gregg, Dylan Sczerbowicz, Alyssa Sczerbowicz, Camille Sczerbowicz, Libby Hetler, Gabe Hetler, Sam Hetler, Cade Hetler, Ryan Hall, Alex Hall, Carter Reynolds, Conner Fournier, Ava Jackson, Greta Wintersteller, and Van Wintersteller. She is survived by her brother Ernest & Helen Schwartz, Galion; her two sisters Kathleen "Sis" Wallace, Galion; Janet "Tootsie" & Roger Bloom, Mansfield.

Monica was preceded in death by her four sons: her twin sons Timothy & Thomas Carter, Daniel Carter and Joseph Carter; daughter Mary Louise Reynolds; brothers, William Schwartz, James Schwartz, Richard Schwartz; sister Phyllis M. Hughes.
