He was born July 26, 1930 in Pender County and was the son of the late John D. Everett, Jr. and Sarah Wilma Lockey Everett. John was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jim Stephens.
John D. is survived by his children, Julie Maultsby and her husband, Ted and David Kent Everett and his wife, Susan both of Wilmington; mother of their children, Sabra J. Nunalee of Wilmington; grandson, Cameron Maultsby; and sisters, Eleanor E. Stephens and Pat E. Tatum and her husband, Lee both Burgaw.
John D. was a member of Long Creek Baptist Church. For many years he was employed with NC Department of Transportation and with Greenlawn Memorial Park.
John D. was a man of quiet manner who enjoyed watching T.V., sitting on his porch and NASCAR racing. He had a wonderful witty sense of humor and was always thankful for the care his sisters gave him. Fond memories of John D. will forever remain in our hearts.
Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Malpass Memorial Cemetery at Long Creek Baptist Church with The Rev. Wayne Bateman officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church following the graveside service.
