He was born in Caldwell Parish on July 5, 1905, to the union of Joel Avery and Viola Hester Stamper. A life-long resident of Caldwell Parish, he was a retired farmer and logger. He was also a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9, at Crossroads Cemetery west of Grayson with interment under direction of Riser Funeral home.
Survivors include three sons, C.R. Stamper of Tioga; W.O. Stamper of Olla; and C.L. Stamper of Homer; three daughters, Evelyn Berry and Joyce Washer, both of Grayson and Bonnie White of Eros; 15 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.
