Gail Bates
Gail Bates, 69 of Celeste, passed away at her home on Saturday, May 19, 2012.
Gail was born on July 15, 1942 to L. B. Sledge and Abina Ann Pastejovski Sledge in Houston. She married Robert Bates on May 29, 1970 in Houston. To this union were born a son, Michael and a daughter, Susan.
Gail loved people. She always had a smile and an encouraging word for any and all she met. She was a devoted wife and mother; an excellent cook and avid gardener. She loved to nurture and help different things to grow, including people.
Gail wore many hats in her life. She was a church organist; a certified ombudsman for the State of Texas; a volunteer at the Celeste Elementary School, where she read to the children.
Gail overcame many adversities in her life. She never stopped trying; never stopped doing; never gave up. But of all her achievements; her greatest joy was her family. Gail loved her family unconditionally. Her greatest passion was her children and her grandchildren.
Gail's relationship with her Savior was very dear to her. Her quick smile, open arms and loving heart were evidence of her close walk with the Master. Hers is a light that will truly be missed.
Gail is preceded in death by her parents, L. B. and Abina; as well as her sister Frances Attra.
Those left to celebrate her life include her husband, Robert Bates; her son Michael Bates and his wife Jennifer; her daughter Susan Spoonemore and her husband, Kelly; and grandchildren, Mitchell Bates, Robby Spoonemore, Logan Spoonemore, Matthew Bates and Kristen Bates.
A memorial service for Gail will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at the United Methodist Church of Celeste. A private interment is scheduled for DFW National Cemetery in Grand Prairie.
