She was also the granddaughter of William and Ellen Sharpless Freese. On May 23, 1891, in Monroe County, Indiana, she married John S. Mathews, son of Thomas E. and Mary J. Lentz Mathews. They were the parents of one daughter, Freeda May Mathews. Lulu passed away in May, 1961, in Bloomington, Monroe County,Indiana, and was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery there.
