Mickey W. Rice, Sr., 58, of Baxter Springs, died early Friday, May 18, 2012, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was not expected.

He was born January 7, 1954, in Wichita, Kansas, to Kenneth D. Rice, Sr. and Thelma Nadine (Oaks) Rice. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Harrison, Arkansas, where he grew up and attended school. He worked as a truck driver for numerous years and also in various muffler shops.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pittsburg. His hobbies included crocheting and making blankets.

He and Lori George were married February 8, 2003, in Rocky Comfort, Missouri. She preceded him in death December 27, 2009.

Survivors include: Three Sons – Allen Rice of the home Preston Rice Hollis, OK Mickey Wayne Rice, Jr. West Fork, AR Three Daughters – Roxana Ziegler Baxter Springs, KS Becky Marks Joplin, MO April Burrows Quapaw, OK Fifteen Grandchildren Three Brothers – Terry Rice California Kenneth Rice, II Monett, MO Ronnie Rice El Paso, TX Three Sisters – Sherry Vance North Glen, CO Yellonda Cannon Oswego, KS Robin Huntzinger Chelsea, OK

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother and one granddaughter, Alishia Rice.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
