Ruth Shipley was the daughter of Samuel Shipley and Keturah Sutton. She married Joshau Brown January 18, 1817 in Barren County Kentucky, where she was living with her father Samuel. The marriage bond was signed by her brother, Rueben Shipley and Joshau Brown They came to Arkansas by ox teams and flatboats to Fort Smith. Ruth and her husband are both buried in unmarked graves.Children are- Lavesta AnnBrown 1814-1899, Keturah Sutton Brown 1816-1885,Darcus Brown 1819-1888, Samuel Shipley Brown 1821-, Christopher Brown ,Sallie Ann Brown1825-, Thomas T. Brown 1825-1888 twin to Sallie, Ruth Adams Brown 1827-, John Farmer Brown 1829-1863 (Civil War), Elizabeth Brown 1833-, and Clemency Lennis Brown 1834-1913
