Virginia Eileen Nida,79, died March 30th at Michael Manor in Douglas after a brief battle with cancer. She was the second daughter of Earl A. and Helen (Stearns) Turner. The family moved to Douglas in 1929, and she graduated from Douglas High School in 1941. On Sept. 16, 1948, she married John William Nida of Lingle in Newcastle. The couple made their home in Douglas after living for a brief time in Glendo. Mrs. Nida worked for Goodrich Pharmacy and later spent 17 years working for the Converse County Assessor's Office. She retired in December 1987. She was a volunteer for many youth organizations in the Douglas area, including Girl Scouts and 4-H. Along with her husband she founded the Douglas Youth Baseball program in 1958 and was a mainstay at the concession stand for literally thousands of baseball games. She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Stack and husband Jerry of Casper; Cindy Lund and husband Jerry or Worland, and Connie Hill and husband Dave of Douglas; son Bill Nida and wife Dee Dee of Veteran; nine grandchildren, Guy Lund, Lane Lund, Jerad Stack, Brian Stack, Jamie Miller, Chris Hill, Sally Leinweber, Angie Moore and Lucas Moore; two brothers, Gordon Turner and H. W. "Bud" Turner, both of Douglas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John W. Nida on Dec. 15, 1999; her parents; brother Floyd Turner and two sisters, Lorraine Drennen and Bette Tillard. (Information was obtained from her obituary and cemetery records.)
