James M. Brubaker, 78, of the Peter Becker Community in Harleysville, formerly of Souderton, died Friday evening, June 26, 1998 in the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Community. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Mae D. (Garis) Brubaker, in 1991.

Born in Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Harry L. and Theda Jane (Metzler) Brubaker. He was valedictorian of his 1936 graduating class at the former Maytown High School in Lancaster County.

He attended Messiah Junior College and Elizabethtown College, where he earned his degree in business administration.

He was a typing, history and geography teacher for 11 years at Lower Moreland High School. He also taught for three years at the former Upper Moreland High School. During the 1940s, he worked for four years in civilian public,service in Virginia, training in business management.

Since 1951, he was the director and owner of the Century Gospel Film and Video Library in Souderton. He won many Best Film Library awards and the Gold Award of Excellence as Dealer of the Year in 1991.

He was a member of Bethel Springs Brethren in Christ Church in Reinholds.

He was survived by two daughters, Joan M. Heister and her husband, Darl L., of Telford and Marilyn J. Erbig of Middletown, N.J.; two sons, James M. Brubaker and his wife, Laurie Y., of Telford, and John M. Brubaker of Souderton; 10 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; one brother, Ray M. Brubaker and his wife, Darlene, of St. Petersburg, FL.

Funeral services were held in the Souderton Brethren in Christ Church.
