The Riggs family was prominent in the early history of the northern part of Boone County. Silas Riggs was a justice of the peace for twenty years, and one of the most prominent citizens of the county." The Riggs family was supportive of the southern cause during the Civil War because of their strong belief in state's rights. The cemetery is on land belonging to Sarah Riggs.
