As a young man "Andy" was employed in various clerical positions in Peabody, including at Tucker & Griffiths mercantile. For about twenty years until nearly the time of his death he operated a clothes cleaning establishment, Peerless Cleaners. He was also a member of the community band. He derived great pleasure from playing his trombone, other brass instruments, and the bass drum.
He was a member of Halcyon Lodge No. 120 A.F. & A.M. of Peabody, and also served it as Master. He was also a Royal Arch Mason. He was a trustee of the Presbyterian church for many years. He also loved hunting and fishing.
A sister, Harriet, and a brother, Benjamin, died before Andy, in 1905 and 1910, respectively.
