ANGOLA - Keith G. Brooks, 78, passed away Nov. 9, 2011, in Rawlins, Wyo. He was born June 9, 1933, near Angola, Ind., to Gerald and Vera (Bowerman) Brooks. Keith served in the Korean War in the early 1950s in the U.S. Air Force and completed an outstanding four-year tour of duty serving his country. Keith lived in many places across the United States but found his home away from home in Colorado and then in Wyoming. He spent the last 20 years of his life in Wyoming, where he enjoyed all the outdoor activities it had to offer. He loved the great outdoors, which reminded him of his childhood -- days of happiness and joy, where he could hunt and fish and enjoy God's great creations on his own terms. Keith also had a passion for being a silversmith and for mentoring, rock hounding, hunting, camping and enjoying the grandeur of nature. He was a dedicated father with a wonderful heart, and he cared deeply about the people and things around him; his last memories were of helping people in Wyoming. He also held a deep love for his home in Indiana and for the family and friends with whom he grew up and shared much of his life. One of his last wishes was to return to the hearth of his family and friends, to all the wonderful memories of his youth and to those who loved him then and who love him still. His great sense of humor and caring personality will be missed by all. He is survived by his children, Tracy A. Brooks (Kent Weber) of Westcliffe, Colo., and Scott G. (Heejung) Brooks of Aurora, Colo.; former wife, Elizabeth (Jacob) Brooks of Aurora, Colo.; grandchildren, Tamas Christman, Joshua Brooks, and Jacob Brooks, all of Colorado; his brother-in-law, J. William Meyers of Angola; and cousins, nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ruth E. Meyers. Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Circle Hill Cemetery in Angola, with Pastor Tim Terrell of Angola United Methodist Church officiating.
