He is the son of Jesse A. Lambard and Sarah Elizabeth Amelia White. His parents married on 30 May 1843 in Clarke County, Alabama. His mother was the daughter of Barbara G. Wilson and Joseph White. The father, Jesse A. Lambard, a riverboat captain who came from Maine, is credited with building the first school in Gainestown, Alabama. His father died before 1850 and his mother Sarah along with Jesse, Barbara and Joshua are living with Joshua Wilson that year. His mother died before 1860 and Jesse, Barbara, and Joshua are still living with Joshua S. Wilson. The family listed before the Lambard children on the 1860 census is that of Dr. R. E. C. Smith including Jesse's future wife, Elizabeth, and Barbara Lambard's future husband, William I. Smith.

He enlisted 29 July 1861 at Bell's Landing, Pickens County, Alabama, in Co. C, 5th Alabama Infantry as a private. He was in the CSA hospital in Chimborazo Hospital #5, Richmond, Va from Dec. 8 to Dec 16 1861 with "Parotitis." From Mar 21 to Apr 7, 1862 he was in Chimborazo Hospital #1 with "Hermicrania." He was captured at Winchester, Virginia on 19 Sept 1864. He was held first at Fort McHenry, Maryland and then at Point Lookout, Maryland for exchange in Feb 1865. His wife received a pension based on his CSA service after his death.

His siblings, Joshua Wilson Lambard
and Barbara Dorliska Lambard Smith Jones,
moved to Texas.

He married Elizabeth Gilmer Smith on 14 Jan 1867 in Clarke County, Alabama. She was the daughter of Dr. Richard E. C. Smith and Helen Ann Washington.
