Henry P. Hudgens, 84, of 31 North Twenty-third street, a resident of this city for sixty years, died Sunday evening at 8:45 o'clock at the Home hospital, where he had been a patient for six weeks. A son of Peter and Lucy (Nash) Hudgens, he was born May 31, 1849, at Falls Mills, Virginia. In 1868 he was married to Isabelle Fell, who preceded him in death May 31, 1928. Mr. Hudgens was a member of the Christian church of Stockwell. Three sons survive: Albert and Dennis, of Lafayette, and Charles of Rocky Ford, Colorado: two daughters, Mrs. Mort Ewing, of Lafayette, and Mrs. Mattie Curry, of Arlington Heights, Illinois, also eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Maggie Shoemaker, of Jamestown, New York. The body was removed to the Baker funeral parlors in Dayton and later returned to the home of Dennis Hudgens, No. 9 North Twenty-second street, where friends may call after 6 o'clock Monday evening. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the residence, with Rev. Robert Knight, student pastor of the First Christian church, officiating. NOTE: Lucy Jane Nash Hudgens was born abt 1828, Prince Edward Co., VA. She married George Washington "Peter" Hudgens on 6 Jan 1847, Prince Edward Co., VA. George Washington "Peter" was born abt 1819, Prince Edward Co., VA. I am sure that George Washington and Peter are the same because of the census records and the names of the children.(from Judy Llamas)
