Ray Schaefer, age 92 years of Larabee Street in Port Washington, died Friday, February 2, 2007 at Heritage Nursing Home in Port Washington where he had been a resident for the past several weeks. He was born May 1, 1914 in Port Washington, son of Charles and Ida Sharl Schaefer. He was a 1932 graduate of Port Washington High School and was on the undefeated football team in 1930. He also played basketball for four years. On September 9, 1939 he married Edna Meyer at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lakefield. Ray worked as a mechanical engineer for Wisconsin Electric Power Company for 43 years and retired in 1980. He also worked as a bailiff for Ozaukee County from 1983 to 1995. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Washington and enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers, driving in his car and meeting the Electric Company retirees for breakfast. He is survived by his wife Edna, three daughters Barbara (John) Splinter of Edgerton, WI, Mary Ann (David) Heuerman of Avon Lake, Ohio and Karen (Tim) Hildebrand of Oakland , CA, six grandchildren Tim and Dan Splinter, Kristy Truax, Scott and John Heuerman and Michael Mallinger, six great grandchildren Eric and Kevin Splinter, Sarah and Ryan Truax, Kory and Ashley Mallinger, two brothers Herbert (the late Betty) and Charles (Jane) Schaefer both of Port Washington, two sisters in law Elenore Schaefer and Linda Grisar, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one daughter Judy Mallinger and one brother Walter "Iggy" Schaefer. Funeral Monday, February 5, 7 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church, Port Washington with Pastor John Klieve officiating. Burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation at the CHURCH Monday from 4-7 PM. Memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church appreciated.
