"Doc" Goddard was the foster father of Marilyn Monroe due to his marriage to Grace Atchinson-McKee. Ervin was married to Eleanor Barbara Roeck on June 13, 1925, and this marriage produced three children, Eleanor "Bebe"(born December 17, 1926), John (born June 4, 1928), and Josephine (born October 19,1930). Ervin and Grace were married on August 10, 1935, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ervin worked for years at Adel Precision Company, both in Burbank, CA, and Huntington, VA. There has often been mention of his having worked as an actor--this is even listed in one of his entries on a US Federal Census--but there is no solid confirmation of this. Goddard's daughter Josephine had a brief film career under the name Jody Lawrence. After the death of Grace Goddard, Ervin married two more times: to Anna A. Long and then to Annie Rundle, who died with him in a motor vehicle accident. There have been unsubstantiated accusations for years that have been postulated as fact that an intoxicated "Doc" made inappropriate overtures against a young Norma Jeane. Ervin and his third wife, Anna, were invited to the funeral of Marilyn Monroe but did not attend.
