-March 22, 2007 - Rush County NewsLaura Button Laura Marie Button, 93, a long time Rush County, Kansas resident and pioneer, died March 13, 2007, in Copperas Cove, Texas. She was born on July 5, 1913 to John and Mary Appel Schwindt. She was raised on a farm 3 miles north of Bison. She had two sisters, Selma Chlumsky and Louise Parsons. After graduating from Bison High School, she married Vernon A. Button in January 1933. They lived south of Rush Center and Laura helped her husband on the large farm while raising three children, Joe Button, Mary Tuzicka Davis, and Gay Koci. When her husband died in April 1958, she moved to LaCrosse for a time, then to Colorado where she worked and played in the mountains until returning to LaCrosse in 1973. While living in LaCrosse, she occasionally visited her children, grandchildren, family and friends in California, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado and Ohio. In April 2001, she moved to Oklahoma to live with her daughter, Mary. Upon the death of her daughter, Mary, in August 2001, she moved to Texas. Her heart, however, always remained in Kansas. Her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Dorothy Button, Texas, daughter and son-in-law, Gay and Dennis Koci, California and 31 grandchildren survive her. Her grandchildren are Hal Button, Donna Hurley, and Bernard Hall, Texas; Norma Robinson, Colorado; Tom Tuzicka and Linda Mitchell, Oklahoma; Mark Koci, New Zealand, Ron Koci and Stella Koci, California. Her great grandchildren are Sabrina Shamon, Ian Davis, Billie Quinn, Joe Quinn, and Alexander Hall, Texas; Krissy Fannon, Ohio; Jon Ragsdale, Arizaona; Jon Robinson, Colorado; Christopher Tuzicka, Michael Tuzicka, Emily Tuzicka, Crystal Edens, David Davis, Kyle Davis, and Jessica Mitcell, Oklahoma; Melissa Ellison, California; Christopher Koci and Samantha Koci, New Zealand; Her great great grandchildren are Keena Ragsdale, Arizona; Collin Tuzicka, Caleb Tuzicka, Leah Tuzicka, Kaylee Taylor, Kodyn Crow and Judah Davis, Oklahoma; Ian Muse and Kathryn Van Lingen, California. One grandson, Michael Koci, preceded her in death. It was her desire to be cremated. A family visitation was held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2007, at the Crawford Bowers Funeral Home, Killeen, Texas. A second family visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2007 at the Janousek Funeral Home, LaCrosse, Kansas.A private family burial will take place. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the LaCrosse City Cemetery.Memorial are suggested to the Amrican Cancer Society or your favorite charitable organization in her name.
