Albert Joseph Mattice was born in Austin, Minn. Dec. 30, 1890, the son of Albert F. and Elizabeth (Furtney) Mattice. He attended Austin Public Schools.
He was married to Christine Solensten on July 24, 1912. Their marriage was blessed by five children: Alberta, Richard, Laura, Helen, Donald. They celebrated their golden anniversary in 1962.
He was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad and completed 50 years of service. He was a brakeman and a conductor and worked out of Minneapolis, Mankato, Faribault, St. Paul and Austin. He had returned to Austin shortly before his retirement.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church as a child, but in his later years was a member of the First United Methodist Church. After his wife passed away he resided in Savage with his daughter before entering the Minnesota Masonic Home. He enjoyed the companionship of the other residents, as well as contributing much of himself to others.
He passed away March 10, 1973, at the Masonic Home.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his son, Richard; his parents; two brothers, Oscar of Aberdeen, S.D., Clarence of Rockford, Ill.; his sister, Lydia Van Pelt, Missoula, Mont.; one grandson; two great-grandsons.
He is survived by his children; Mrs. Ray (Alberta) Hecker, Mrs. Ted (Laura) Greenblatt, Mrs. Howard (Helen) Tallman, Donald Mattice; his sister, Mrs. Lewis (Helen) Minto; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Gill Brothers of Minneapolis, March 13, with Rev. Edwin Knudsen, chaplain of the Masonic Home, in charge. Masonic memorial services were by King Solomon Lodge 44 of Shakopee, the night before. Interment was at Acacia Cemetery, Mendota, with pallbearers from the King Solomon Lodge.

Error on Death Certificate: Albert's father, Albert Francis Mattice was born in New York not Wisconsin, Albert's mother was Elizabeth Furtney not Turtney.
