MANY MOURN DEATH OF A GOOD CITIZEN
Mrs. Maria Scott King, For 58 Years a resident of Mayfield Township, Died on Saturday Last Leaving Great Many Descendants.

Mrs. Maria Scott King, for 58 years a resident of this county, died at her home in Mayfield on Saturday last, August 4, after a long illness of cancer. She was born in Crawford county, Ohio, on September 15, 1841 and was therefore over 75 years of age.
She was united in marriage to Phillip King in 1859, and they moved immediately after their marriage to the home in Mayfield township where they ever after made their home, and where he died a number of years ago.
To them were born seven children, all of whom survive: Mrs. Rosa Reed, Henry King, Mrs. Margaret Vosburg, Miss Rilla Wike, all of Rockwell, Ia.; Mrs. Amelia Lawrence and Laura Deverell, both of Mayfield; and one stepdaughter Mrs. Mary Baker of Willard, Minn. Mrs. King also leaves surviving six brothers and two sisters, 46 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Mrs. King was a good wife, mother and friend, and her death is greatly deplored. The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Mayfield Congregational church, Rev. Benjamin Rist, pastor of the Sycamore Methodist church, officiating. The interment was in Mayfield cemetery.

Last Saturday about 2 o'clock p.m. Mrs. Philip King passed from this life at her home in Mayfield where she had lived continuously since 1859. The cause of her demise was stomach cancer. The funeral services were held at the home on Monday at 1:30, and at the Mayfield Congregational church at 2 o'clock p.m., Rev. Benjamin Rist, pastor of the Sycamore Methodist church officiating. Mrs. Esther Cliffe of Sycamore sang. The burial was in Brush Point cemetery by the side of the remains of her husband who passed away some years ago. Miss Maria Scott was born in Crawford county, Ohio, on September 15, 1841, and at the time of her death was over 75 years of age. She was united in marriage to Philip King in Ohio in 1859, and shortly afterwards came to Illinois, locating in Mayfield on the farm on which they died. To this union were born seven children, all of whom are living to mourn her departure. They are: Mrs. Rose Reed, Henry King, Margaret Vosburg and Mrs. Orilla Wyke, all of Rockwell, Iowa, Frank King, Mrs. Laura Deverell and Mrs. Amelia Lawrence, all of Mayfield, and one step-daughter Mrs. Mary Baker of Willard, Minn. There are also surviving six sisters and two brothers who live in Ohio beside many other relatives and friends. The deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew her for her good, loving and kind disposition.

A number from Kingston and vicinity attended the funeral of Mrs. Marie King in Mayfield last Monday afternoon.
