From the Korean War records on file at the National Archives regarding his service:

Private Merle George Thomas had been living in Sutton, ND when he entered the service and was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division.

On April 17, 1952, he was killed when his bunker collapsed on him near Murak-Tong, North Korea.

He was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
