Regina Therese "Jean" Whiteside of Syracuse, died on May 10 of Alzheimer's which she handled with grace and dignity. She was the daughter of Edward and Eileen Whiteside. She is a graduate of Bishop Ludden HS, SUNY Oswego and earned a masters in Deaf Education and American Sign Language Interpreting from Gallaudet University. Regina was a trusted friend, beloved sister and aunt; she was always ready with words of encouragement or to lend a helping hand. She was an extraordinarily talented and self-taught baker, quilter, basket weaver, milliner, animal lover and world traveler. Regina joyfully shared her talents by creating personalized gifts for her loved ones. Regina was an American Sign Language Interpreter, taught sign language for over 20 years at OCC, and also an elementary school teacher of the deaf. Regina is survived by her siblings, Edward, Mary (John) Niemi, Thomas, Eileen (Charles) Tommasulo, Patricia (Michael) Pepe, Nicholas (Susan), Vincent (Cassie), and Joseph (Donna). Regina is a favorite aunt and great aunt. Her family is deeply grateful for the loving care provided at Lorretto especially the Heritage Apts community and the staff of the 11th floor of Cunningham. Services: Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Church, 1340 Lancaster Ave., Syracuse. Burial to follow at Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W. Genesee St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Regina's favorite charities the World Wildlife Fund, www.worldwildlife.org
