Peter C. Becker of 23 Carelton Street passed away May 1, 1905 in his home of a weak heart, and tuberculosis of the lungs. He was 79 years old. He leaves behind several children, grandchildren, and his wife of 46 years, Caroline C. (Keller) Becker. Peter was born December 16, 1825 in Dusseldorf Stadt, Rheinland, Prussia to Johann Bernard Georg Becker and Anne Barbare Dietz. He had lived in Salem, MA for 50 years. Peter was a Union Veteran of the United States Civil War and belonged to Massachusetts' 23rd Infantry Regiment Company F and the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R) Post #34. Mr. Becker was a tailor by trade, also operating a saloon in Salem's Derby Square for a number of years. He was buried at Greenlawn Cemetery, May 4, 1905; lot no. 631 Sumach Path. The lot was owned by both Mrs. Becker and Mrs. Mary A. Clark; whose husband Sergeant Lester B. Clark was killed in action, June 17, 1864, Petersburg, VA.
