Steve Saunders

LOGANSPORT — Steven Phillip "Steve" Saunders, 64, Logansport, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012, in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

Born March 5, 1948, in Logansport, he was the son of Phillip E. and Grace A. Herron Saunders.

On July 15, 1973, in Logansport, he was married to Bonnie McInerny, who preceded him in death Feb. 16, 2001.

A 1967 graduate of Logansport High School, Steve owned and operated Saunders' Locksmith Service for 40 years.

Steve was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and camping at Ponderosa Campgrounds. Steve had a great fondness for dogs, having many special pets over the years. In earlier years, one of his greatest joys was watching his son play football.

Surviving are his children, Doug (Angela) Coppock of Eufaula, Ala.; Candy (Layne) Hall of Logansport; and Brian (Noy) Saunders of Pingree Grove, Ill.; sister, Susan (Jim) Hammond of Walton; stepsister, Lynda Wright of Logansport; stepbrother, Greg (Sondra) Watkins of Pikeville, Ky.; and six grandchildren, Brandon Coppock, Brianna Coppock, Aaron Little, Katey Hall, Lia Saunders and Logan Saunders.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Helen Leazenby Watkins Saunders.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bill Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher Funeral Chapel.

Contributions may be made to the Cass County Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
