S.S. MORELAND, SR., DIED THURS. FUNERAL FRIDAY
Prominent Planter And Merchant Succumbs at Home Near Here
Mr. S.S. Moreland, Sr., 76, died at his country home four miles south of Homer last Thursday evening at 10:30 o'clock, following a long illness. However, Mr. Moreland, despite ill health, did not give up but went about his business until forced by disease to stay in his room.
Mr. Moreland was a native of Claiborne parish and from a prominent family. He had been successful both on the farm and in the mercantile business. He was possessed with a likable disposition and this had attracted to him a large circle of friends.
His country home was provided with many of the conveniences of the towns, and he was a firm believer in progress and used his influence for all civic improvements. Early in life he identified himself with the churches and was a staunch member of the Methodist church.
The deceased, a member of a large family, reared and educated a large and interesting family. Surviving are the widow, the former Miss Daisy Lunsford of Minden; two daughters, Mrs. Pat Johnson, of Homer, and Mrs. Frank White of Shreveport; six sons, Chloe, Burrell, Percy, Sidney S. Jr., of Homer; Tommy, of Norton, Texas, and Lamar, of Globe, Arizona; two brothers, Claude Moreland of Lake Charles, La., and Turner Moreland of Harris community.
The Guardian-Journal joins a large host of friends in Homer and Claiborne parish in extending sympathy to the sorrowing family.
