Cornelia Ann Tarleton was born on July 29, 1839 in St. Albans, Vermont to Albert Gallatin Tarleton and Mary Thomas Simmons. She married Francis "Frank" M. McKeough on April 7, 1866 in Lowndes County, Alabama. She was the mother of Thomas Lee McKeough and Grace Pollet McKeough. She was the sister-in-law of Mary Elizabeth McKeough Rapier and Thomas Gwynn Rapier. She was the great-granddaughter of Isaiah Thomas of Worcester, Massachusetts, who was the founder and longtime editor of the Worcester Spy, originally the Massachusetts Spy, founded in 1770 in Boston, Massachusetts, and founder of the American Antiquarian Society.
