Obituary
Print Helen J. (Wilson) Hageman (1922 - 2012)

Helen J. Hageman, 89, formerly of Columbus, passed away in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Friday, May 4, 2012.

Mrs. Hageman was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in commerce from Utah State in 1948. An active and athletic young woman, she was on the Utah State women's basketball team as well as the ski team and the softball team. She took flying lessons and was just one flight short of earning her pilot's license when her husband was deployed overseas by the U.S. Army during World War II.

Helen's husband, Alger, was a career army officer, and the family moved frequently during the 20 years that he served. The couple and their children lived in Utah, Alaska, Ohio, Virginia and Okinawa. After her husband's retirement from the Army, the Hageman family settled in Columbus. While in Columbus, she was a busy mother and homemaker, but always found some time for golf. She was the women's Club Champ at Otter Creek multiple times, as well as the Columbus women's City Champion. She also served as president of several of the women's golf clubs of which she was a member throughout the years. In her later years, she enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, and particularly loved her Saturday morning excursions to Nashville for brunch with the family. After her husband's death, Helen moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., and lived with her daughter and son-in-law.

Born Nov. 7, 1922, in Utah, she was the daughter of William W. and Bertha Sonderegger Wilson. On Sept. 1, 1948, she married Alger E. Hageman, Seymour, who preceded her in death in 2006.
