Joel Arden Carpenter

Passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012 in Grand Rapids. Joel was born February 21, 1949 in Watervliet MI, the son of George and Frances (Goss) Carpenter and had lived the majority of his life in the Bangor area. He was a former pilot, actually earning his pilot license before his drivers license. Joel served in the National Guard and also the community of Bangor as a police officer and firefighter. He also served on the South Haven Fire Dept. as an EMT. His last working years were spent at Landers Hardware in Bangor. Surviving is a brother George (Dorothy) of Lawrence; 2 sisters, Joyce (Richard) Freestone of Bangor, Carolyn (Terry) Fulk of Norton Shores; 8 nieces; 7 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will meet with friends on Monday from 5:00 PM until time of service at 7:00 PM at Simpson United Methodist Church, Bangor, Pastor Terry Fulk officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions to either the Bangor Area Fire Dept. or South Haven Emergency Services. Arrangements by BANGOR CHAPEL, D. L. Miller Funeral Home.
